Will be staying in Millom in August. How best to get to York from Millom using bus or train please.
There is no quick way of doing this so it looks like a 4-5 hour train journey with two changes of train en route.
Suggest you put in your requirements into the journey planner on this website and see what comes up: www.nationalrail.co.uk .
Millom isn't the most convenient place for public transport. It's possible to get to York by train but it involves 2 or 3 changes, usually Barrow, Lancaster, Preston. There are also options via Manchester or Newcastle. The distance isn't great but you are looking at a 4 or 5 hour journey. The best/quickest route depends on the time of day. On Sundays there are no train services on the West Cumbria line passing through Millom, but there are buses to Barrow-in-Furness, from where you can get a rail connection. Have a look at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ as a starting point for planning a journey by rail. The current Northern Rail winter timetable for Carlisle-Whitehaven-Millom-Barrow-Lancaster is on https:/…6.pdf but it will be replaced by a new summer timetable from May.
Don't think there are any bus services that make the journey any easier.
You can look at train times and prices here:
A single ticket Millom to York costs an eye-wateringly expensive £62. What you need to do is buy two tickets; one from Millon to Manchester Piccadilly, then another from Manchester Piccadilly to York.
The cheaper Advance fares for August are not on sale yet, so you'll have to wait a few weeks for August's Advance tickets to be released. If you do, and play around with the train times, you can get Millon to Manchester for £10, and Manchester to York for £7.
