Irton Hall

Can anyone comment if there is anywhere close for evening meals - we would love to book here but concerned it may be a little remote?

Quite a few reasonable food pubs nearby. The Bower House and the King George IV (ignore some of the appalling reviews of this one - the previous owner sold up a couple of years agi) in Eskdale Green are good as is the Bridge Inn in Santon Bridge. Further up Eskdale are the Brook House in Boot and the Woolpack near the bottom of Hard Knott Pass.

You also shouldn't miss the Strands pub with its own microbrewery (in Nether Wasdale) or the Wild Olive Italian restaurant in Gosforth.

Hi Madkitty. In addition to the Eskdale Valley there area number of pubs, eating houses that you could try. Irton Hall themselves provide good food. Then there's Nether Wasdale where there's the Strands, the Screes and the Low Wood. Or you could try Gosforth where there's the Gosforth Hall, Wild Olive and the Westlakes Hotel, all of which offer good food. Just round the corner from Irton Hall is Woodlands Tea Rooms, these offer very good home cooked food during the day. Hope this is of help. Barbara (Gosforth Hall)
