Akumal Bay/Snorkel-Need a tour or can you do it yourself

I wanted to know if you can view Akumal bay by yourself or need a boat to take you out?

I was planning on walking out from Lol-Ha early am and snorkel. Eat and snorkel some more maybe at the locations below:

Half moon bay

Turtle cafe

Hotel Akumal Caribe

Are there any other amazing places to snorkel I should add to the list?

Also, I rented a car so is parking avaiable?

You can park your car at the arches, and walk in. Turtle Bat Barkery is in the same bay as the Lol-Ha. You do not need a guide at all, we do it ourselves all the time. Half Moon Bay is one bay over and has great snokeling as well.

At the far end of HMB is Yal Ku Lagoon ($7 us)

Like an aquarium - always good to go there if the bays are to windy

Enjoy

When are you going?

I enjoyed Yal-Ku but i certainly did not find it to be like an aquarium, in places i couldnt see fish 3 foot infront of me. We really enjoyed it, there was plenty of fish to see, plenty of bird life too. Obviously it wasnt that 'hazy' everywhere but sometimes we had to swim several metres before it came clear again. Definitely recommended though.

If you are driving, park the car just outside the arch (its free parking there). Go to the beach, then walk to the Right where Akumal Beach Resort starts. Just about 100 to 150 feet off shore, excellent reefs and corals, plenty of fish and live corals. You can also see giant turtles in that area. We find it better than snorkeling at most parks, and far superior to Xcaret.
