I also checked with a local dive shop, Akumal Dive Shop, to inquire about prices through a non-resort dive facility, and here's the response that I received:

...Thank you very much for contacting us and considering our facility for your diving, recreational activities and water sports. We are proud of our 30 years of operations in Akumal, serving as the one and only Professional Dive Shop, devoted to provide the means to bring our guests closer to the natural

wonders of the Mexican Caribbean.

My name is Alessandra Figari and I am currently the Chief Instructor at the Original Akumal Dive Shop, their Course Director and Cavern/Trimix Instructor and cave guide.

We do not directly organise diving in Cozumel because of the logistics. You need to get a taxi to go down to Playa and get on the ferry to cross and reach by taxi the dive shop we are associated with for the dives. The way back will take you the same amount of time. Probably 2 hour trip for each way.

We can offer you to dive in Akumal, beautiful multilevel reef. We provide pick up to your hotel once you provide us with a reservation.

I have listed below the information on opur diving packages for you to analyse.

DIVE PACKAGE AND CAVERN DIVING

Two Dive Package …$ 70.00

Cavern diving: We do also offer cenote/cavern diving. As you may have heard, the Riviera Maya is well-known for its beautiful fresh water cenotes. The rock formations are unique and the fresh water visibility offers a great diving experience. 2 tank dive in the cenotes 140usd for 2 tank dive plus 15 usd per day for renting gears per person including transportation, entrance fee, tanks, weights.

Packages for ocean diving leaving at 9.30 and 11.30 am and 2.30pm. Surface interval is spend back to the dive shop. Be at the dive shop 30 min before the dive leaves

We suggest to make a deposit reservation on line .You will be able to pay the balance at the dive shop. You can go on line at www.akumaldiveshop.com or www.akumal.com and do the reservation on line.
