muskoka accommodation...which cottage?

We have just moved to Toronto and want to holiday in Muskoka/ Algonquin the week of Sept 10th. There are so many cottages for rent but it is hard to get a feel of which to choose having never travelled to the area before. We have 3 kids aged 4, 2 and 8 months so want a cozy easy option....sandy beach playground ideally canoes nearby. We were wondering about clyffe house but the accommodation looks v dated in pictures althou all reviews seem positive. Could anyone please help ?

Have you checked out cottage resorts? We have been going to Lumina Resort on Lake of Bays for 12 years and absolutely love it. It's an old, traditional Muskoka resort (been run by the same family for more than 90 years). It's not fancy but it's a great location and tons of fun, especially for kids. Their website is http://www.luminaresort.com.

My family has been vacationing at Clyffe House for many Summers. The resort has been in business since the early 1900s or something, so, yes, the cottages do look a bit dated; however, they've all been updated over the years. (Seems like something is updated every year - this past summer we noticed the tennis court was resurfaced) Besides, the rustic feel is part of the place's charm - we want to feel like we are cottaging when we are up north. The other great thing about Clyffe House is there are lots of other children running around for my kids to play with. During our week all the guests had a nightly soccer match on the big field after dinner. (parents vs children) Hope this helps!
