i would like to go to the golden sands with my electric wheelchair
dose the streets/restaurants/bars are accessible to an electric wheelchair?
Golden Sands is quite hilly and bars and restaurants are not exactly wheelchair friendly.
However, there will be bars / restaurants you will be able to go to but number one woulkd be to contact your holiday company / hotel to ensure you will be able to get about the hotel OK.
It might be a long shot but we also go to Los Cristianos in Tenerife and vertually everwhere is wheelchair friendly.
I hope you find somewhere nice.
Thanks for ur information
i know friend who was in the International Hotel Casino & Tower Suites and said its fully accessible
but i dont like to stay in the hotel all day...
The International is a very new hotel and so was probably built to be wheelchair compliant.
I cant say the same for bars / restaurants, although there will be some that by fortune rather than design are accessable.
we use a wheel chair for my son a travel on and the lifts are very small in most of the hotels I think that you may even not be able to get a electric chair in them
the disabled ramps around the resort you will not be able to use we cant push the wheel chair up them they are at the same angel as the steps
the curbs most of the curbs will be to high
you will not be able to use most of the pavements but you can use the road
charging points may be another problem
and it is unlikely you could use the beach
my son can walk some so he can be helped to walk up steps or to the beach and I can just carry the chair up the steps but I could not do this with a electric chair
and yes there are hills
another thing if you are bringing your chair with you will it fit on the airport transfer bus/taxi
now if you get a hotel on the flat it wont be to bad going out
you can go from one end of the resort to the other on the sea front without the need to use the rams or steps
most of the front is for service vans ect only so not much traffic
the international would be good for this right across the road to the market / bar area
the Astoria is being rebuilt this year so you would expects it to be built for wheel chairs
the dolce vita but that is along way from the front the bolero has no steps
the hermitage the lillia the kaliakra the parm beach the luna all have steps but you could use the back door but you would have to go around the road to get to the front
the vistamar or the metropol would be ok they have good ramps and only a small amount of steps
hotels up the hill it is how much of a hill can your electric wheel chair cope with and how long a hill as to being a good thing to get a hotel up the hill or not
hotels will say wheel chair accessible but this may not be totally true like maybe you can get in to reception but you cant get to the pool things like that are over looked
if you have the small electric wheel chair then the hills may be to much for it if you have the bigger wheel chair you may have problems getting it in to the hotel lifts
restaurant's some you will not be able to use others the ones you can use they will just move things for you its not a problem
every thing can be over come but it wont be easy like at home you can avoid the rams but you will have to take the road around so the long way
I think that the international would give you a long run on the flat area flat all the way to the marina or up to the main gate
over all you can get by in golden sands with a wheel chair but its not really wheel chair friendly but it is doable
thanks alot for all ur informations!
Excellent information from all the posters on the thread.
Just to add - GS will be fine but parts are very hilly. I suggest choosing a hotel on the front rather than further back in the resort or on Party Street. This will give you easy access to places to eat and bars etc. Also check out lift access and let the hotel know you are a wheelchair user before you book. This way they can confirm the hotel is suitable for your needs.
There is a hotel close to Sunny Beach that maybe suitable if you can`t find one in GS. I`ll link below.
