Might be a bus or taxi then! Can't imagine dragging the kids there in August heat!
We walked it one morning earlier this month. Due to costal erosion the walk is more difficult than normal as you have to walk up from the beach a few times. I wouldn't recommend it with kids on a hot day but ...
.. for a cooler walk try the "free" guided hike up the mountain behind Sveti Vlas, see TA things to do in Sveti Vlas. Stunning view and an interesting guide.
There is an open top bus as well that goes from close to Sveti Vlas to Old Nessebar for 2 Lev
Sounds good Alfie. Don't think the kids will be too fussed about the guided tour, but the open top buss sounds nice.
Dean. I understand kids as I used to be one so I understand why a hill walk might not suit.
There's a thread called "Open top sightseeing bus" from mid June that gives more info including where it starts.
The open top bus does not go as far as Sv Vlas, it goes as far as the Riu Helios Paradise (known as the sanatorium, as that was located there before the massive hotel was built). Not much point from the Poseidon , its only 2 stops. Ideal for going to Nessebur in the opposite direction though.
It is do-able from were your staying Dean but you can only walk up so far mate before you come over a walk way bridge things and onto cobbles that take you away from the beach and onto the main road to St Vlas. You can cut through hotel Sunset which is next hotel up towards Helena from you and that brings you to the main road that takes you there. Buses are literally pennies over there pal. I'd say it isn't much more of a walk than to the south end of the beach to be honest. Maybe 15 minutes longer.
Sometimes the walk to the fat cats bar or similar can be to much in the heat in August pal.
We had to stay in for 2 or 3 days last year with the kids as a lot of Bulgaria had given weather warnings out for very high temps and they warned elderly and young children to stay in doors. It was baking pal in that heat wave.
If you want a taxi go to the hotel over the road from you. Hotel Marvel. It's a man and his son that run marvel taxis and they are brilliant mate. Last year he took us to Nessebar and back and waited for us for 50lev we were there quite a while. Most other taxis in sunny beach are skanks
