Any one recommend a good Fargo restraunt?

We travel to Fargo very often on business and pleasure and greatly miss the Red Bear since it's closing. Can anyone recommend a place that has the character that the Bear and good old Riverbend in Grand Forks had in the Fargo area or are we all doomed to Chili's and Applebee's?!? What is the hot spot in Fargo these days? The Cork?

I've been traveling to Fargo recently. I haven't been to the Red Bear, so I can't compare, but I have found two good restaurants downtown. My hands-down favorite is the HoDo--there's both a fine dining restaurant and a more casual bar in the Hotel Donaldson on Broadway. The bar has small plates and a wonderful wine list. Also try Monte's downtown on Broadway a little farther north. And next door is a coffee house with good atmosphere -- Atomic Coffee. Just across the bridge in Moorehead is a place called Sarello's. It's in a nondescript strip mall -- but inside is fine and the food is quite good. And while you're in Fargo be sure to check out the Plains Art Museum -- the building and exhibits are a revelation and they even have a very good cafe for breakfast and lunch.

Thanks much! I think I do need to 'think outside the box", and concentrate on downtown instead of all the franchise joints by the mall. I definitely will check your suggestions out!!

I miss the Red Bear too!

One of my favorite places to eat is in Moorhead called the Speak Easy. I also enjoy the Green Mill on 13th Ave in Fargo.

If you don't want to go to the West Acers area, South Fargo has a lote to choose from such at Doolittles and Ruby Tuesdays.

I think the Texas Roadhouse is one of the hot spots these days. I was there last week and had to wait 45 min on a Thursday evening. The place was packed full but I did have the best prime rib I have ever had!

There are lots of places to eat in the Fargo/Moohread area. It all depends on what you like.

By far, the best restaurant in the entire Fargo Moorhead area is Sarello's in Moorhead. It is just north of the Center Mall parking ramp in a small strip mall. Don't be misled by the strip mall connotation. It is about fine cuisine and excellent service all the way. The price range will be higher than the Red Bear but it is all together in a different league than Red Bear. It will be a dining experience to savor.

NDfarmgirl: Upfront I should tell you, I'm with the Convention & Visitors Bureau in Fargo-Moorhead. Here are some things for you to consider:

The Red Bear is now the Broken Axe. Check it out.

If you like "linen table cloth" places, try Monte's on Broadway in downtown Fargo. It's got a great menu and super martinis.

Do you like ethnic food? In Moorhead, the Thai Orchid has very good Thai food.

My wife loves Saffron (Indian) in south Fargo and Santa Lucia's (Mediterranean)near West Acres.

I know I'm just doing my job but give those selections a try. Contact me if you want other ideas.

Thanks for coming to Fargo-Moorhead.

We were just in Fargo two weeks ago - went to Joey Carino's - prices were great - pasta was fresh, very tasty - hot fresh bread - reasonable prices ($12 - $15) and huge portions. Good wine selection. Would definately put that on the list to visit again!

I have been to Fargo a couple times for business and enjoy Old Broadway in downtown Fargo. HoDo was good too.

I recommend both Johnny Carino's if in the mood for italian or Granite City. Granite City by far is mine and my husband's favorite place in Fargo. We have lived here for eight years and pretty much eaten everywhere. He recommends the Overlake, and make sure you get the waffle fries or Garlic Mashed Potatoes. If you need any other tips let me know.
