Relocating to Triad Area . Any advice is appreciated.

My wife and I will be relocating to the Triad in a month or two for my job, and are clueless about the area. Anyone have pros/cons to living in Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, or smaller towns in the area. My job allows us to live in any of these locations.

We'll be coming out for a weekend to check out the area, but wanted to get some general info so we could be more productive with our time. We're both in our mid 20's, no kids, like to find as nice an area as possible while spending $150-$175 or so on a home. Thanks in advance.

Hi RyanHayes, Congrats on your relocation. My husband and I are relocating to the Triad area also, but it will be next May. There are some wonderful realtors in that area. Go to listingbook.com. Our realtor has us set up to receive daily viewings of homes in that area. Its a great website! If you need more info, just let me know.

I wish that I knew what type of area you are interested in because I lived for 18 years outside of Winston Salem some in Davidson County and Some in Davie County. Both has excellent livability and quick access to winston salem but still rural. Winston salem is a medium city Greensboro is a little bigger and highpoint is a little smaller. Jobs are the hard part about living in any of these cities. The high paying jobs have been eliminated over the years but many retirees are there now. Many former rjrenolds and food lion millionares. Greensboro has the large airport and highpoint has the furniture market. Winston salem has very little of the big toys anymore. For a smaller urban area you might check arcadia or thomasville both have easy access to winston salem and greensboro. If you have a good job waiting there is no downside to any of the following areas just visit and see which area feels good to you.

Thank you for the information. We hope to have some sort of job lined up before we move. Husband is a teacher, so he should be ok. We are clueless also about the area, but we plan on checking several areas out and spend a couple weeks around April. I am surprised that I am reading about the employment in the area. Is it really that bad?

Thanks for the responses. I should've been more specific in my original post. We've both grown up in suburb's of Memphis, and would like to live in something comprable. Newer homes in quiet neighborhood. Close (within 10 minutes) to new shopping centers, decent restaurants, movie theaters, etc. that still fits into our price range listed above.

It sounds like exploring more of Greensboro is the better option for us. I'm in a sales territory that extends south, so extreme north Charlotte suburbs may be an option as well. Huntersville, Davidson, etc., although I don't know much about them either. Thanks again.

Hi All,

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back...been looking at the homes in the Triad area online. Please let me know how you make out in your search in the area. We want to be near Target, Walmart, and the Malls, dr's, etc. etc. Convenience is most important for us. We hope to find a home in the 150K range. Good luck! I am in the outsourcing industry, husband is a Teacher. How many call centers are in the area between Greensboro and W-Salem?

If proximity to stores are what you are looking for then you might look at Hickory area......they have Valley Hills Mall and then all the stores you named above. Lake Hickory is just another plus. I can send you some websites to look at if you like. Housing is quite reasonable.
