We are planning to stay in the town of Gaspe for 3 days at the end of August...what activity should we plan? And is it chilly during that time?
Usually the weather is nice at the end of August in the Gaspé Peninsula since the sea waters will have warmed up all along the summer. Two things to bring tough will be some rain gear and also a shawl, cardigan and such for the nightime.
The main touristic place is not Gaspé but Percé. Forillon NP is close to Gaspé but beside that there is not a lot of activities over there. Percé might be very touristy but you have more to see around and a lot of different lodging and dining options.
If you must stay in Gaspé you can atl east go there on a day trip. It is not far but plan on arriving early so you can take a boat tour around Bonaventure Island and disembark there to walk to the gannets colony and not miss the last boat to get back on the mainland. Then you can just walk around the village a bit more, have varied views of the Percé Rock and have a seafood dinner somewhere.
I would recommend staying in Percé. Gaspé and Percé are only a 90 minute drive apart, so you can go to Gaspé from Percé.
The main attraction in Percé are the gannets of Bonaventure Island. The boat tour is weather dependent, so on the first nice day, take the first boat out at 9am and come back on the last boat at 5pm. I wrote a review with details.
On other days, visit Tektonik, the hiking trails behind Percé, the glass lookout, Cap Gaspé, and Nova Lumina in Chandler. Other activities include food, the Pit Caribou pub, Anse-à-Beaufils, Cap-des-rosiers, sea kayaking, and probably some others I forgot.
In Chandler on your way to Nova Lumina, head for the Attablé restaurant at the marina, which also has a beautiful beach.
In Percé, if you have the time and money, enjoy a world class meal at Le Normandie. Try a kombu royale beer at Pit Caribou - made with Gaspesian yeast, and wonderful.
There is also art, music, theatre, salmon fly fishing and a host of other activities.
It gets chilly at night or on the water so bring a fleece and a windbreaker. Expect daytime highs of 27C, nighttime lows of 5C.Edited: 9:27 pm, June 06, 2017
