Question About Boat Tour

I will arrive at Milos airport on a sunday morning around 7:00h, in june 9th and I will stay in Adamas.

Do you think I will be able to get in a boat tour the day I arrive, if I get to the beach/port before 9 AM? Is it possible to arrive in the day of the tours and get in one of the boats before they leave?

Or do you guys think is better that I just leave the boat tour to the day after (monday)?

Thanks a lot.

1. Re: Question About Boat Tour

June is still early season so the tour boats will not be full. Just go to Adamas waterfront and there will be at least a dozen boats getting ready to sail. Just wander down the waterfront and ask the captains if they have room. i suspect that you will be welcome. Bring cash. Also there is no room for luggage on the boats so you will need to find a place to store your suitcases before you take the tour.

Here are our images of Milos. lots of pictures of our tour which was half way around the island. It was called Adventure tours. It provided snorkel equipment as part of the trip. As far as I could tell the other tours just let you swim near the boat but this one had an escorted snorkel tour as well.

I guess maybe because it will be early june, I won't find boats that do the Round of Milos Tour yet.

I will problably find only the sailboats that go to Kleftiko on June 9th and 10th.

Am I right?

All the tour boats are right in the same place including the ones that go to Kleftiko and all the way round the island. In June they are generally not full so they don't all go every day but as far as I could tell at least one or two were heading out every day. My plan still works for you. Each boat has a sign out on the pier stating their itinerary so you can spot the round the island boats.

They basically run when there are enough customers to make it worth their while. The round Milos does not go daily in early June, least when I was last there it didn't, so you take your chances looking along the quay the evening before.

The shorter one was of no interest to me, so I don't know about those.

Retired Hippy is correct the boats did run only when they had enough customers. We were there in June two years ago and the round the island boats were running intermittently We saw two of them depart over the 6 days we were there. The rest of the time they just stayed tied up. Best you can do is hustle down to the dock and see what is available

For what it's worth the boat trip to Kleftiko was pretty good. There was lots of time at Kleftiko with a zodiac tour of some caves and a snorkel tour as well.

Yes, I guess I will have to choose there. I actually don't know yet if I choose the Round of Milos or the Sailboat to Kleftiko and the west of the island.

Both of them looks like a pretty good day out.

Thanks for your replies!!

Gustavo,

You have time to catch all the excursion boats and since you stay in Adamas (if you tell us the hotel I can tell you exactly how long it will take you to walk from the hotel to the boats) you can first stop in the hotel to leave your luggage or even early check in case that there is no reservation before you in your room (good possibility at 9th of June).

The question is, if it worths to start your vacation on Milos with the boat tour right away. In order to catch the morning flight, you will be in Athens' airport about 05:30 in the morning. If you have arranged an overnight in Athens (if you tell me your Athens' hotel I can tell you the best way to reach the airport) then you will be probably wake up around 04:00-04:30.

So you you are thinking of going on a very nice but tiring day trip on Milos at the day that you will be awake since 04:00am. I beleive that by noon (especially after lunch) you will be really tired and this might ruin your excursion and its a pity. Please note that boat trips start around 09:00-10:00 and come back at about 19:00.

So my suggestion is to take the boat tour the day after.

How long are you going to stay in Milos? Because another important factor that you need to consider is the weather. If the weather forecast shows high wind for Monday and good weather on Sunday (bit difficult for early June, bit not impossible) then you will go for the trip right away (you will sleep on the beach :P)

Pre booking on an excusrion boat is not too difficult after all. The only boat which you will definately wont have to pre-book is the round of the island "Captain Yankos" which is the big wooden boat and can take up more than 100passengers, no way can be full in early June. The other excursion boats take up no more than 35 passengers so there is chances that the one that will make the "click" to you, has made the same to another 35 before you.

If you want I can tell you a few things about the available boats.

8. Re: Question About Boat Tour

Hi Antonis,

I will stay in Lagada Beach Hotel. I will only stay 3 full days in Milos and I will leave in the morning of the fourth day. That's why I want to make most of the time I have there.

In Athens I will stay at the Royal Olympic Hotel, and I will be with 3 friends, so I am thinking about getting a shuttle or taxi at 5 AM.

So either the boat tour has to be on sunday, or monday, because 2 of my friends will head back before me on tuesday afternoon, so they couldn't go on a boat this day.

I will definetly check the weather on the days before deciding what to do, but I hope there will be good weather.

If somehow I can't get into the boat on the first day, I will rent a car, and I will go to the beaches on the south of the island. Starting with the Kleftiko Hiking Trail. Then Gerontas Beach, Firiplaka, Tsigrado, Paliochori and maybe Thiorichio. I will workout the timing to be back to Plaka to watch the sunset from Kastro.

Then we will have one day for the boat, that might be the first day or the second. After the boat tour, that is supposed to end by 7 PM, If I have time, I will go to Klimatouvoni to watch the sunset from Panagia Tourliani Church.

On the third day I will cover Klima, Trypiti, Catacombs, Ancient Theater, Firopotamos, Mandrakia, Sarakiniko, Alogomandra and Papafragas. I don't know yet where to watch the sunset this day, do you have any suggestions? Maybe go back to Plaka and whatch it from another angle.

Of course the weather and winds can make me change some of this itinerary. What do you think of it?

About the boats, I like the idea of exploring better the coves, but also I would like to see the rest of the island from the sea and check the Glaronissia Rocks for example. So still I haven't decide, wich one to choose, the Round of Milos or the Sailboat to Kleftiko.

I kinda like better the idea of going in a smaller group of people in a sailboat rather than going in a big boat with a lot more people. In the end I will have to see what's available in the day I'm going. I checked Andromeda Yatch website and it says that their first day of sailing will be in June 10th.

Do you have any other boat tours websites?

Thanks a lot for your help!!

Guastavo,

My wife and I along with my boys did the pirate ship tour...can't remember the name. We go to the Greek Isles every other summer and this one of the best things we have ever done. The boat docks in a cover for lunch and they make a great seafood pasta for lunch...beers/wine/soft drinks, as well. you can jump from the desk of the boat into the water and snorkel. They have a small motor boat attached to the boat and take people out in groups of 5-6 to explore in the caves. It was a whole day on the boat!! Loved it...We almost did it a second time on that trip. I hope it is running when you are there. I'm guessing it will. Milos is one of our favorite islands...You will have a great time no matter what you choose to do.
