Traveling from Al to Duck, NC....would love to take a ferry?

We're traveling from Anniston Al to Duck NC (for a wedding) leaving Saturday am & spending the night in Florence, SC Two cars, 3 kids and 4 adults. Would like to take a ferry to break up the trip for a 9 month old. and a 12 & 10 year old. Any suggestions....the ferry stuff is confusing! Do we go to Wilmington to get on? Thanks for your help.

You will probably want to catch the ferry from Cedar Island to Ocracoke, and then another one to Hatteras , The cedar island one runs only a few times a day and reservations should be made. and you need to get to the terminal 1 before it leaves to secure your reservation.

There is another from Swan Quarter but if you go that far north you better off driving on to Manteo from there.

The Hatteras ferry from Ocracoke runs every 30 minutes from 5 am to midnight
