Christmas Holidays in OBX

We are thinking about taking the family to OBX for a week right after Christmas throught New Years. Any info would be helpful. Weather? Restaurants open?

Activities?

Weather is definitely alot warmer than PA, however it is chilly and there are some bad storms. If you bundle up you can have nice beach walks on sunny days. The better, locally owned for a long time, restaurants are open all year - the tourist trappy ones are not - who cares! Any day in the Outer Banks is a better day than any place else.

We were just in the Nags Head the last week of Sept., it was terrible. We had a northeaster and we could even walk on the beach, because the beach was covered with waves. We had three good days and the fishing wasn't very good. We will never go in the fall again.

oh, the fall can be absolutely sublime...spring too. Temperate weather, fewer people. Do go back...but booking during hurricane season can be a problem. Check the long range forecasts or book a hotel with a shorter cancellation policy.

Maggieann, not sure where you got that the local restaurants don't close, but a lot of the locally owned, and very established restaurants close duuring the winter: Tortugas, Red Drum, Owens, etc... all close for a while during the winter season. Actually, it's the other way around, and the tourist places seem to stay open!

As far as the weather, it's impossible to predict, and I have seen winters that were very mild.

Christmas, and Thanksgiving have become busier holidays here, and over the last few years, more people are spending those holidays here. So, maybe in the future, more places won't close. There will still be a lot of great places to eat that remain open, and there will be things to do, even if the weather doesn't accomodate!

You'll enjoy it for a holiday.
