We reviewed several hotels in the Maggie Valley area, and found most to be moderately acceptable. Most were clean, and comfortable room layouts. Generally the overall view of the staff at most were friendly and helpful.
One motel-"hotel" stood out amongst the facilities we found to be most undesireable for stay.
Several reasons will be discussed here. 1.)/Privately owned and day to day operations are dependent on the extended family who are running the place. This proved positive for all family members staying there, or visiting the premises, not the guests as they came second to the "regulars". Staff were very rude upon minimal requests for assistance, and at one point during a late evening move, we were told that there was a power outage problem and we would either need to move and accept a room less desireable to us or remain in the room we had without power on one side of the room. We asked if there would be any inconvience consideration, and were told they do not like to reimburse any one ...as you are required to pay up front for all nights of stay!! ( which we had 5 nights there to review the facility.) The pool and "Tiki Bar" are generally a public use area for the locals, ( which pay $5 day for access to the area and recieve more gracious service than "cash paying occupants of their property."
Two folks Greg and Eilene who are locals, and operate a local business were more than willing to spend a little time getting us into what was going on in the area, and the maintaince man Jim was also the most helpfull, and always had a smile and a hello.
I rate this facility in the low 2's of 10 for anyone wanting to stay in Maggie Valley. There are alot of other stays in and around the area.
