anyone plan a wedding in OBX?

I know that there are wedding planners but I was wondering if anyone has personally planned or attended a destination wedding on OBX? Things that worked or didn't work? planners to avoid?

We are in the process of planning a wedding. Doing it ourselves, so hopefully everything will work out. Every company we have contacted has been more than helpful. Planning from Ohio, with no previsit. Would be happy to answer any questions I can. Our trip is mid July

We have vacationed every yr since the kids were small in /Duck. Her bf fell in love with the place and they are considering a duck wedding next summer. We will be in Duck for 2 weeks in July so if you have suggestions of folks to connect with while we are there, that would be great! Where are you having your wedding, how many , where are they all stayingetc Thanks for the info!

this is slightly off topic, but we've vactioned in the 4X4 area for years now. one year there was a wedding in the house next to us. the groomsmens didn't walk down the bridesmaids, they escorted big huge dogs. it was hilarious. the people must have owned the house as there is usually a restriction of two dogs at a rental. then there were fireworks, which are forbidden as well. it was all good. :)

hopetotravel-Sounds just like our family. We vacationed there every summer when the kids were small, until sports and dance took up our summer vacation time. My daughter always said she wanted to get married there on the beach. And so she is. Take the vacation part out of the totals, and and it is costing us less than many of her friends home town doing it up big weddings.

We rented a house in Duck, could not really afford beach front in July (she is a teacher so time was limited) so we are a few houses back. Had to really search for a house that would allow an event with 100 guests. But finally found one that would allow a tent and that many guests. Then searched the area to find other houses on the street. Wedding party is in one house, grooms family in another, and aftermuch searching found the house next to the wedding house for us andour close friends and family. Once we were finished with that, did tons of internet searches. There are alot of outerbanks sites for weddings. They have options for rentals, catering, officiants, bakers, florists, photographers etc. We started with finding the house, and went from there. I can PM the vendors we are using along with some of the obx websites if you would like.

Any info you are willing to share would be great! Which beach will they have the ceremony or will it be at the house? What day of the week? That seems like a dilemma for travel plans

We hare having the wedding on the beach at the end of the street, and reception on the lawn under a tent at the beach house. We are having it on a Wednesday. Most are renting Sunday to Sunday, so we thought we would have a few days to do all the wedding things, and then a few days after to do the vacation things.

Found the house by googling "event homesouter banks"

Depending on the number of guest, will depend on what you can rent,

Sun Realty, Carolina designs, Resort Realty, Twiddy are some that had houses in Duck, but not for a big crowd. We found the house we are renting through Paramount Destinations.

Here are a few good places to start:

Also, if you are not already, become a member of TheKnot.com

Tons of useful info on there

10. Re: anyone plan a wedding in OBX?

I planned my wedding there from Ohio in 2007 and am shooting a wedding there in 2 weeks (I'm a wedding photographer myself).

It was definitely NOT easy since it's not like you're able to meet with people but I made it work and there was nothing I regretted about my day at all. Luckily my photographer (Brooke Mayo) was getting married the month after me so I hit her up for recommendations for vendors that she was using herself.

One thing that was a TOTAL lifesaver was hiring a day of coordinator (Nannette from The Proper Setting). Oh my god. I had quite a things go amiss (house originally allowed small events, decided not to 3 months before the wedding, hair stylist cancelled the day of, caterer dropped a rack of dishes etc) and she handled everything for me with a breeze. She was worth her weight in GOLD.

My biggest recommendation is NOT to have the wedding on the weekends. We planned ours for Wednesday and everyone thought we were crazy but I'm so glad we did. That gave us time to get there and get things set up but also gave me wiggle room in case of a hurricane. BUY INSURANCE! It's cheap and worth the stress it takes off of you.

Make sure you get your license and know what you need for it before you leave. A couple was getting married the same day we applied for ours and they forgot their birth certificates. Total mess.

Beyond that, have fun! I would relive my wedding day every day if I could.

Vendors that I used and LOVED:

Cake: Argyles http://http://www.argylesrestaurant.com/
