UNC Basketball Game

Coming into town on Saturday for a basketball game. I've never attended a game at Carolina - where do you suggest I park? I will be going to the new basketball museum as well. Where should we eat after the game? I would like to eat somewhere on Franklin Street if it won't take too long....

Thanks for any gameday advice you can give me!

Go Tarheels!!!

Park your car at University Mall and take the Tarheel Express bus to the game ($5 round trip). This is much easier than trying to find a public parking space near the Dean Dome.

By the way, the new basketball museum closes about one hour prior to tip off.

Excellent! Does the Tarheel express run all day? The game starts at 1:00 but were planning on going to the museum at 9:30 when it opens. After the game we would like to grab a bite to eat on Franklin St. Would we be able to catch the Express back to the mall on Franklin St.?

Thanks so much!

No, the express does not run from Franklin Street back to the mall. I'm also not sure about what time the express starts to run. Check out www.tarheeblue.com for parking information.

What kind of food do you want to eat on Franklin Street and what is your budget? That will help in suggestions.

As jsb says, the Tarheel Express starts about 2 hours before game time and only runs to and from the Dean Dome. If your plan is to visit the museum and then stay for the game then forget the bus and look for public parking signs near the hospital.

After the game, drive to Franklin St. and if you can find a parking space start looking for eating places...everywhere will be crowded. Enjoy the game!

Thanks for the tips. I will try to park in a public lot. As for dinner on Franklin St. my range would be $20-$25 for dinner (w/o drinks). I would like to eat at a fun, unique place. Also, will the shops along Franklin be open? I must pick up some Tarheel gear. They don't sell any where I live...

The shops on Franklin Street (Johnny T-Shirt, Carolina Pride, and Chapel Hill Sportswear) should all be open for you to buy Tar Heel stuff. In addition, there is a Student Stores mini-shop inside the Smith Center as well as two other smaller kiosks.

I checked out the basketball museum today and it was incredible. I was there almost 2 hours and didn't even spend any time checking out the various audio and video clips you can cue.

I'm still unsure about what you are seeking in terms of food. But here are a few suggestions:

Burgers (and great photos of Tar Heel greats)-- Sutton's Drug Store

Italian--411

Pizza--Pepper's or Italian Pizzeria III

View of Franklin St.--Top of the Hill

Southern food--Mama Dip's

Diner food--Breadman's

Thanks!

Is there a parking lot at the museum or will we have to search for a place to park?

Well, since the museum is next door to the Smith Center, all the lots will be reserved for the big-time donors attending the game. I'm thinking your best bet is to park at the Ramshead Deck (adjacent to Kenan Stadium and the Alumni Center) and take the short walk up and then down the hill to the Smith Center and Basketball Museum.

Thanks for all the great advice! We had a great time. We parked at the Rams Head garage and that was perfect! We arrived at the museum as it was opening and spent about 1 1/2 hours there. It was amazing! Then we went to the game - it was awesome! We arrived there ahead of the crowd and was able to walk around and look at all the picutes, ect. in the Dean Dome. One tip is that none of the concession stands or merchandise stands take debit or credit cards. Cash only. I didn't realize this but luckily there was an ATM inside. It's better to plan ahead and bring some cash with you. After the game, we headed to Franklin Street and looked in some of the shops, etc. It was great!

Go Heels!
