Blue Ridge Parkway Touring ???

We're planning a trip to tour the Blue Ridge Parkway on our motorcycle. We will be driving with our motorcycle in a trailer, staying at some B&B's along the way and taking day trips along the Blue Ridge Parkway via motorcycle. This trip, we are focusing on the stretch between Valle Cruis, NC and hopefully to MP 0 at the start of the parkway. We would like to tour leisurely and stop along the way.

We would appreciate some helpful tips of what to see (non-touristy stuff) along the way. Our itinerary so far is:

Saturday - drive from Florida to The Mast Farm Inn in Valle Cruis, NC (approx. at MP 290)

Sunday -- motorcycle day tour of the Blue Ridge from Valle Cruis north (hopefully to Woolwine, VA at MP 170)

Monday -- drive to Woolwine, VA to The Moutain Rose Inn B&B (along the way tour some winery's or any other suggestions?)

Tuesday -- motorcycle day tour on Parkway from Woolwine, VA to Peaks of Otter at MP 80

Wednesday -- drive to Steeles Tavern, VA to the Sugar Tree Inn B&B (suggestions for tours, etc. along the way?)

Thurday -- motorcycle touring on Blue Ridge from Steeles Tavern SOUTH to Peaks of Otter and then from Steeles Tavern NORTH to MP 0

Friday -- long drive back to Florida.

I welcome any suggestions on how this itineray might work, things (non-touristy) to see/do along the way. We like touring wineries and hiking and seeing the beauty of nature.

Thanks!

I just don't think you can (or should) do the amt of driving you have planned for Sunday esp if you want a leisurely drive with stops. There are many overlooks and hiking trails north of the portion of the parkway where you will start.

You may be interested in visiting West Jefferson.

Glendale Springs offers: http://www.churchofthefrescoes.com/

Also Glendale Springs Inn is there.

Trails and picnic areas are found at Cascade Falls and Doughton Park. Both have picnic areas. A great place for dinner in Roaring Gap is Nikola's. I think they're closed on Monday but check to be sure.

In my opinion, the Virginia portion of the brp is just not as great as the NC portion, but there is Mabry Mill in Meadows of Dan where you will also find Chateau Morrisette winery. Lot's of BB's around there. I like Floyd, Va. These areas are more or less in Woolwine.

I'd also do a search on the brp in the NC forum.

Flips,

thanks for your suggestions. Now I just have to figure out what MP marker these are at and where Roaring Gap is located.

Roaring Gap is at MP 230, 3 miles south on Hwy 21.
