planning visit Tambopata

Dear experienced Tambopata travellers,

Is it a mistake to start Peru visit with Tambopata after 2 days Lima ?

Is it a problem if mosquito nets are not treated with perethrin ?

Should we take some with us ?

Francine.

We stayed at the Refugio and the Tambopata Research Center. Both were very nice off the beaten path. Both of them have misquito nets over the bed. We sprayed our clothes with permethrin before we left on our trip. As for bug spray I would suggest to get 100% deet. The worst are sand flies if you spend anytime down on the water. The boat rides are fine. We did not encounter any bugs while in the boat. Some other guests at the resort had lots of bites on them, but that was because they went swimming in the water. These were from sand flies. hope this helps . Have a great time!!!! And yes Lima first, then Tambopata and then cusco is a good set up, that is what we did

Hello,

No, you don't need to switch planes in Cusco. You just need to wait on the plane for about 35 minutes. I have been to Refugio Amazonas, Posada Amazonas and the Tambopata research center and would recommend any of the three. Going to Tambopata is a great idea after Lima. Another option that many travelers do is to first visit Cusco and Machu Picchu, then travel on to Tambopata after that. Let us know what you decide!
