Solo Female, walking in Stone Town alone late evening

I am thinking of staying at Warere Town House. Only hesitation is that it seems to be located slightly away from the town center. Will I be able to walk to the night markets or a restuarant alone from there?

The hotel replied me not to walk at night after 9 pm, so it's better to find a taxi …

Never take a chance on that, assume that it's not safe to walk about at night (and then you will be safe). Take a taxi, they are inexpensive.

Taxi to a restaurant and back, though if eatery is not far from your hotel... many will provide an escort to where you're staying. I't just makes sense, not to be a possible target.

My concern is…is the taxi safe?

Because in my home town, I don't even use the taxi alone at night…:-(

You can always ask someone from the hotel to accompany you to the restaurant. IE walk the route with you.

Or sit in the taxi with you....

Although I walked this route several times bu myself I would not let my wife to walk it alone late at night (during daylight it is safe). It is as safe as walking in the harbor area alone at night in any city - Amsterdam, New York or Odessa - might be quite unsafe. BTW - If you want to try to eat as locals there is a great, dirt-cheap place just 500m from Warere in Malindi area called Passing Show. Pretty much locals-only bur food is good and the experience is great.

"Although I walked this route several times".

No offence, but this was very unwise. Men are not immune to being robbed or just randomly attacked.

If a place is unsafe for a woman to walk alone, it's equally unsafe for a man. And just because you felt safe doesn't mean you were.

Malindi is in Kenya last I checked.

And if in NYC, Manhattan especially... perfectly safe to walk at night. Sorry, have to defend my city which is the safest in the US.

Besides, when/if were men immune to bad things happening to them anywhere? Those up to no good anywhere don't care.
