Going Solo

Hi

Im going to visit Mauritius sometime in May. Im thinking of Le Mauricia as I would like to do watersports ect. Is it safe for a female to wonder about in town for shopping during the day? Will Grand Bai be the place to stay for someone going by themselves. Not to bothered about parties and nightlife...mainly boat trips / scuba diving ect.

HI,

I stayed in Mauritius alone in October - I had 3 nights at Merville beach and then 7 nights at the Heritage resorts in the south coast.

I was ok at all the resorts - but i felt more comfortable at the Heritage resorts, but i did go out into Grande Baie - I would maybe suggest not going out alone at night.. but during the day it was fine.

I hired a car and a driver for the day and went on some trips - The boat trips from Tamarin are fantastic, and Ile Aux Cerf is a must see for relaxing and snorkelling.

hi , i stayed in coin de mire hotel a short bus ride from grand baie, for 2 weeks at the end of march i also went on my own, at no time did i feel unsafe but maybe a bit weary in port louis market. i did not go into town at night as my hotel had a bar and adequate entertainment.

i would say go for it you will have a great time, the locals are friendly and helpful and it truly is a beautiful island .

hope you have as good a time as i did (im already saving for return trip)
