Ladies Night in Syracuse

My best friend and I are meeting in Syracuse this coming Friday am and staying the night. We are planning to stay at the Crown Plaza and then making our way to Armory Square for dinner and drinks. We like to get dressed up and have a nice dinner and then go to a nice bar and have some cocktails and maybe dancing. We are both 36 and don't want to be out with the college scene but still want to have fun and enjoy the night life. Any suggestions for dinner and afterwards?

Thank you in advance.

Cheers,

Sarah

I would suggest bc or Opus for dinner in Armory Square. You'll want to make a reservation.

If you can, you may want to consider staying at Jefferson Clinton Hotel - it's really nice and right in Armory Square. As for dancing, I'm not sure - hopefully someone else can help you with that.

Have fun!

For dinner BC(new american) is a good choice, there is also Lemongrass(thai), Pastabilities(ecclectic Italian), Elephant bistro(asian steakhouse), and Black Olive(medditeranean) for a few other options. Opus is decent food but service and management usually suck there(That's only my opinion from the 4 or 5 times I have eaten there, but I am a chef and former server so I tend to be more observant and critical of bad service when it takes place). **Here is a link to a fairly current wedpage of menus at restaurants and you can search by Amory Square Location. I beleive all the choices I included above are available at the site as well... www.cnymenus.com

For nightlife, not a ton of dancing in Armory Square. Syracuse Suds usually has music and dancing but other than that a lot of places have music playing and maybe a few people dancing but not dance floors or things of that nature really. If you defintely want the dancing you are gonna have to go to outskirts of downtown(ex.vinyl's or trexx, red light lounge is pretty good I have heard also but it is primarily a "gay club" if that happenes to bother you). The downside of those is the crowds tend to be a little closer to that "college age". That being said if you are ok with the nice cocktails you have a lot of nice options right in Armory Square. Al's Wine and Whiskey Lounge, Blue Tusk, Empire Brewing Co., and the above mentioned Black Olive turns into night club around 11 I am pretty sure and they usually have some pretty cool middle eastern music and decent drinks.

Last tip, pretty much anywhere downtown you arent going to have to worry about the "college scence", just avoid Marshall St. bars and you will be ok. Enjoy your time here!!

Sorry meant to add one last dining option... The Mission(Mexican) It's only about a 1/4 mile from hotel so maybe a 5-10 min walk if you're up to it. It is also just about halfway from your hotel to Armory Square. one side note though bc of their close proximity to a church they don't have a liquor liscence...only beer and wine

If you really want to go dancing i would suggest the LAVA Club at the Turning Stone Casino. It would be necessary to rent transportation to and from. I can't think of anything else at the moment.
