transportation from Newark Airport to Staten Island

Newark Airport appears to be the closest one to Staten Island, where we consider staying during our visit to NYC. Does that mean that getting ground transportation from that airport to Staten Island is cheaper than getting the transport from JFK?

If so, what means of transportation do you suggest? We will probably arrive late, so we'd like to minimize the hassle.

Staten Island is not generally a good place to stay to visit New York City, as the public transportation is practically non-existent. Come post your plans in the New York City forum, and we'll help you sort the whole thing out.

Taxi fares from Newark are fixed by distance to many locations. - Staten Island will run $45.00 to New Springville, more or less depending upon the locations on Staten Island.

We have an extensive transportation system here, local bus, express bus and train service. If you plan on visiting other boroughs, Manhattan, etc., ferry service is available at no charge from St George to the Wall Street area of Manhattan. Express bus service is also available to this area and to midtown as well as local bus service to Brooklyn connecting with the subway system.

Taxi fare from JFK will be more costly to Staten Island and is more distant.

It may be too late to chime in here, but depending on the hotel, they normally provide a shuttle to and from the ferry.

There isn't an easy way to get from Newark to Staten Island via public transportation. Depending on time of day, it could take 2 hours or more.

Visit www.hopstop.com for options and directions.

Also, if your goal is to visit NYC, staying in Staten Island is not a great idea. There are very few public transportation options on Staten Island.

There are many transportation options on SI, there just not all that good. As mentioned, there is no easy way to get to SI from Newark. You would have to get to Manhattan, then take the ferry and bus, or take an express bus from Manhattan. You should also know before going ahead with your plans that unless you use the express bus it will take you a minimum of an hour and a half to get to and from Manhattan. Here is the express bus map- mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/xpress/x010cur.pdf

If you use the X10 bus, you would have to transfer to/from another bus to get to/from the hotel. I don't know how often their shuttle bus runs throughout the day.

I live on Staten Island. The fares from Newark Airport are fixed by law, it is a short ride of about 30 minutes +/-. You will know the exact fare in advance + tolls and tip. You do NOT have to go to Manhattan, the ride is direct from the airport to Staten Island.

Taxi will cost about $40+. There is a way to get to SI from NJ without going to Manhattan via Bayonne, NJ But, that only depends on what time of day you arrive.

Take the AirTrain from the airport to Newark Airport Rail Station

- Take New Jersey Transit Train one stop to Newark Penn Station

- Take the PATH train to Exchange Place

- Take Hudson-Bergen Light Rail to 34th Street Bayonne

- Take the S89 bus across the Bayonne Bridge onto Staten Island (This only runs during the rush hour) Victory Blvd. stop- Here's the S89 bus map- mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/staten/s089cur.pdf

-Transfer to th S62 bus going west to Travis (to hotel)

Folks - All you have to do is to take a taxi direct from the airport to Staten Island to your destination address. We live in New Springville, Staten Island, the fixed fare is $48.00 plus tolls and tip. The dispatcher at the taxi stand will give you a slip with the exact rate on it to your destination, no going to Manhattan or to Bayonne - no need to take a bus, it's as easy as ABC.
