southampton area accomodations during christmas?

we'll be visiting relatives at their weekend place in southampton for christmas day. we're driving from nj with our 2 sons, 11 and 14 years old, and so would like to find a really good place to stay for 2 or 3 nights--either a "resort-style" place with fitness facilities and/or indoor pool or a really nice b&b. we don't have to be in southampton, just nearby enough to make the christmas-day drive easy, very late at night, probably after much celebrating. several accomodations i've read reviews about seem scarily bad or disappointing. . . any suggestions?

There aren't really any "resort" places out here...There are a few large motel-type places that have a lot of rooms...The Atlantic, outside of town, and the Southampton Inn in Southampton (where we put up our wedding guests.), but they are probably not going to be what you're calling "really good" There is also a B&B next door to us called White Fences, which is very quiant...And they just rennovated it. There are a few B&B's/Inns around town, but the nicest facility in Southampton is the 1708 House...Very nice rooms, and great breakfast...and you are right by Main Street for shopping/restaurants, etc.

The closest thing to what you are looking for is probably the Baker House in East Hampton (about a 20 minute drive from Southampton). My wife and I stayed there on our wedding night, and it was great. I don't know if there is a fitness facility there, but they do have a grotto-style spa with an automatic lap pool (it will be very difficult to find a place with a full indoor pool). They also do massages down there, which we loved.

As you can imagine, the Hamptons are geared torwards the summer crowd, so you'll find plenty of outdoor pools!!! One other suggestion is (if money is no object) to try and find a rental house...A really fancy one will probably have a home gym, and may even have a lap pool. Try calling a woman named Jan Jaeger at Allan Schneider Realtors, she can help you with a rental if you want to look into that.

I've put website links for the places I mentioned below...Feel free to ask any more questions you may have, or run any other places you find by me...I'm happy to share the inside tips on our town!
