Kayaking rental - favorite trips?

We will be in Rochester June 18-25 for a graduation and have rented a home in Hilton on Lake Ontario for the week. What are your favorite kayak day trips in the area? We won't be able to put kayaks on the rental car, so we need out-and-back from a rental site, or an outfitter who does put ins and take outs. We don't want to spend a lot of time driving. Thanks!

Don't know what's available for rental on that side of town, but if you want to stay close to Hilton tou're looking primarily at Salmon Creek or Braddock's Bay for interesting locations. I would probably pick the latter out of those two.

If you head over to the east side of town, there are a couple of firms that do rentals and will take you upstream to pick up Irondequoit Creek in Ellison Park, that's a nice route back into Irondequoit Bay. where you can explore the back bay marshes or get out to the bay proper.

If you want to be within 30 minutes drive or so from Hilton you will pretty much be limited to flatwater kayaking, either on Irondequoit Creek/Bay or the Genesee River/Erie Canal. There is a small man-made whitewater course at Lock 32 on the canal. Check out the following for options and click through to the rentals page: http://rocwiki.org/Canoe_and_Kayak I can personally recommend BayCreek Paddling on Irondequoit or the Genesee Waterways Center on the river. Both have good rentals and on-site put-ins.
