Parking in Fira

How is the parking in Fira? Is there parking easily available nearby to take the funicular down to the Old Port for a day excursion? I have seen previous posts on this question suggesting parking is not a problem unless it is July or August. We will be in Santorini the week after Easter. Is this still a busy time that could complicate parking? Any insight is most appreciated. We'd prefer to drive our rental car rather than take a bus or taxi to the port.

There is a public parking lot not far from the cable car building right off the main road just uphill from the main square. No guarantees that you'll find a vacant slot, however. Fira is almost always busy but the week after Easter should make it easier to find parking. People also park along the streets where others do the same as long as there are no 'no parking' signs nearby.

Except the one mentioned, there are 2 other parking areas in Fira. A quite large one is below the bus station (cross the lower road leading to Oia). The other (a bit smaller though) is across the road beside Carrefour Supermarket and close to the post office. It will take you 10 min. to walk to the cable car from both of them.

Is it fairly normal to park anywhere with no parking signs? Are there parking meters or charge? How about in Oia?

The only car park that I know you have to pay for is in Oia (surprise surprise), or at least it was a couple of years ago.

There's a big car park in Fira that has always been free, up to last year anyway, I don't know if it's the same this time.

There are no meters and almost every car park is free, and you can park along the roads in many places where you don't see no-parking signs and where it's wide enough for traffic to easily pass by, but don't assume. Look for others doing the same thing.
