Ikies or Oia Castle

We are planning a trip to Santorini in October for our anniversary. We have never been to Santorini (or Greece), so we need advice on where to stay.

Currently we are considering either Ikies or Oia Castle.

Which would provide the best Santorini experience - considering views, privacy, comfort?

Thanks for your input.

If you prefer a sunset view then the Oia Castle is for you. The rooms are spectacular and the loction is perfect. If you prefer a caldera view then Ikies is an excellent choice. But also consider Aspaki Suites. They are in the best location in the village, in my opinion. Endless Blue has the most privacy you could ask for, and a jacuzzi on the huge balcony. The rooms are all very comfortable in these hotels.

In choosing to re-visit Santorini after approx 10 years, was in same dilemna last year at this same time..lol! ...and with the SAME properties you are struggling with! Being a Libra (couldn't make up my mind) chose to try both! Hey, life is short:) Anyway, in Oia Castle we stayed at 'Volvano', a smaller suite right on the walkway that leads down to Amoudi w/views of both the sea and village..I didn't see the other suites so can't comment on those but can tell you Dimitri, the owner, did a hands-down 'top' job in deco/comfort/amenties:) The location is Central, right where people come to watch the sunset and you are steps from a great restuarant (Kastro) where Dimitri will gladly make a res for you to watch the sunset:) Again, I didn't get to see the other suites but location-wise, the property is well situated in Oia for easy exploration! We then moved on to Ikies (Boatman)..friends of our honeymooned at 'Captains' the year before and raved about this place..so..there we were..and WOW!.. The view was about the best! The difference we found was that Ikies was quiet..it's location sits at the end of Oia making it definetely more serene:) Again, the amenities were top-notch..as well as the staff..unbeatable! Most terraces here are huge and although not all are private (sometimes you have to pass one to get to yours) there are some totally private like the Carpenter's which has it's OWN entrance/exit from the property leading up to the road! How good does that get:) We were there early May and although it was still on the 'cool' side to say the least..we took full advantage of the temp. controlled jacuzzi on the terrace..and even managed a dip in the pool:) This is, of course, personal taste and I'd be hard-pressed to recommend one over the other as BOTH are unique and top-notch:) For our personal preferences, we preferred Ikies for the 'stillness' or timelessness the property provided for us..(we live in Manhattan so you can imagine!)..coming out to the terrace each morning with breakfast waiting along with that view of the Sea..hard to describe in words! Santorini has been re-introduced as a fav so are going back again in May (our splurge!)..Major congrats to you..whichever you choose am sure you will do nothing but ENJOY!
