Canal Boating on Canal du Midi

My husband and I (mature couple) are going to be canal boating for the first time next year and would love to hear any tips to make our holiday even better than we are imagining it will be. How difficult is it to get to Capestang by train from Paris and from Port Lauragais also by train. We don't plan on driving this time but travelling by train to Italy. Also is a train pass a good idea or should we just pay as we go? Thanks.

Please try a forum search using the words ¨Canal du Midi¨. Much has already been written about every aspect of travel on this canal and a search will give you instant results to your questions.

Your rental company will have the latest, most up-to-date information about how to reach their bases by public transportation.

It is doubtful that a train pass will be of any benefit to you as the required reservations for TGV or Téoz trains must be arranged well in advance and for an extra fee. Your best option is to purchase individual tickets and purchase them early, up to 3 months, for best pricing and seat availability.
