Activities around the Riu hotels!

Hello all,

Me and two mates (guys, all 23) are looking to possibly go to Cape Verde in early to mid November. We realiee there isn't much going on in Cape Verde in terms of night life, which is fine as we want to relax for 7 days, but what kind of activities are available at the Riu hotels, i.e watersports, quad biking etc?

Any info would be really useful!

I can only reply about the Touareg.

As you are already aware there is absolutely nothing nearby. There is a Scuba Caribe watersports hut on the beach, but the sea is so rough that watersports are a no go I am afraid. In fact I would go so far to say that the sea should be made a no go zone at all, even for swimming - the number of people I saw on holiday with fractures and sprains caused by going into the sea meant that I wet my toes on the shoreline and that was that.

Quads are available to rent from the beach, at a much cheaper cost than going through Thomson. I was originally planning on hiring one, but after seeing the rocky, barren landscape of the island, even going on the 'roads' on one would have been a massive risk, with potholes, rocks in the road etc. I value my life, thank you very much.

Sorry to put a downer on things, but unless you chose to go on a Thomson catamaran, the 4x4 trip or other highly priced excursions, you are pretty much left with sunbathing, eating, drinking or sleeping to fill your days. There were not even many same sex groups/singles when we were there, it was virtually all couples or extended families.

My advice would be if you are wanting to do absolutely nothing all day go there. If you want to do anything at all on your holiday go elsewhere.

Many of those can be booked at the hotel lobby where travel agents have their desks. I agree, not cheap, but you can see the prices when you open the link..

We done the half day island tour and a Saturday night out at an amazing beach bar with african dancing, drumming and fire eating.

If you go to the Karamboa then you will be close to Sal Rei with a good few restaurants and bars to keep you entertained. The sea at the Karamboa is also fair bit calmer than the Touraeg which means you might avtually get to use the Scuba Caribe watersports hut on the beach.

Excellent chill out holiday, we even manached the club (pacha) one night and were very surprised by how good it was.

TR54VRS - How were the 2 activities you booked with Giggling Geckos? I only ask as my wife and I are going there in less than 2 weeks and we have booked the same 2 activities!

Any other must do things? Although I have to say we are mostly just looking forward to a nice, chilled relaxing week!

Loads of night life and things to do here! just got to know where and be prepared to venture out of hotel.

If you book a hotel other than toureg you are short journey to town. As well as a lot of bars and restaurants there are the following nights out that might be good for group of guys!

Reggae night morabeza beach bar, Tuesday nights, starts from 12pm, really good live music, great vibe, dancing, cocktails, bonfire lots of people and partying and late finish! Best night out on the island in my opinion.

Friday nights live music at esplanada, followed by dance night, european music, at cocoa bar finished of with clubbing at social club beach bar. (do t have to do all but that's how we do a Friday night!)

Saturday nights sunset party morabeza, cocktails and buffet at sunset followed by live music, earlier finish but you can chill out with meal after or head to town.

There are 5 beach bars, 2 above in my opinion best for partying, the others more sedate. There are lots of bars in town, including sports bar with tv - tud sab. Nightclub mazurka, timanche harbour bar, casa de pescadors real local hang out BBQ on Sunday's overlooking port, about 60p a beer!

Lots of other special nights on week to week, you would need to check it out when here. Although a lot of families in hotels there are plenty of singles here on boa out and about.

During day loads of 4x4 excursions, quad biking, kite surfing, body boarding, surfing, snorkelling, diving, swimming, walking, plus the great beaches of course!

Marina in morabeza does great massage if you looking to chill and there are loads of nice places to eat in town.

Hope this helpful

I agree with Giggling Gecko - there's loads to do, both on Sal & Boa Vista and I see plenty of same sex groups your age as well.
