Grocery Store Tax?

Is there a tax on food or merchandise at grocery stores in NY? If so, could someone tell me what it is? I'm thinking about buying some food here (dry goods; no meat or produce), crossing the border, and buying the rest of the food in NY.

1. Re: Grocery Store Tax?

No tax on most unprepared foods, most probably the stuff you are looking at buying falls into this category. Tax rates vary by county, but it will be in the 7-9% range for western NY.
