Try the Golden Arrow. Great reviews on this site. We just stayed at Northwoods Inn and I don't recommend it (although the location is ideal).

Yes, Golden Arrow is great and I also highly recomend Mirror Lake Inn. It all depends on your budget. BTW, there is really no downtown in the village of Lake Placid.

Depending on your budget, there are lots of hotels/motels in LP to choose from and several of them are on the two main streets. We have stayed at the Mirror Lake Inn several times (very pricey but great views) but we love staying at Art Devlin's Olympic Motor Inn. Art's has great prices, is clean, rooms spacious and plenty of parking. It is a bit further on the edge of town, not on the water, but still walkable and there is a trolley that cruises (free) around and picks folks up including a stop in front of Art's. i am assuming the trolley runs in the winter also as we are there in September always. Read the reviews on Trip Advisor for the best informed decision and enjoy your stay.

Last year we stayed at the Mountain View Inn for 4 nights over the holidays. The place was clean and had a great location right in town. However, we found that downtown can get noisy when the bars are letting out, plus the parking was tight.

We are returning at the end of December and will be staying at Art Devlin's this time. We stayed here 7 years ago and remember it exactly how Adirondack Native describes it.

Looking forward to skiing, watching some ski jumping, taking a skeleton or bobsled ride, seeing Stars on Ice, skating, maybe cross country skiing, some spa treatment, shopping, Lake Placid local brews and good food.
