July Visit

We will be staying in the Lake Placid area for about a week this July. We are acting as logistical support for a group of Boy Scouts, who will be backpacking and canoeing in the beautiful Adirondacks. We will be shuttling cars, making food drops and providing medical evacuation, if necessary. Since we will not be going into the back country, we would like to know if anyone can recommend a decent, yet not too expensive place to stay for 5 or 6 nights. We do not have to stay right in Lake Placid, although this will be our base of operations. We would like to find a place within no more than 10 - 15 miles if possible. Thank you for your advice and guidance.

1. Re: July Visit

I would recommend Wilmington, NY, which is about 12 miles NE of Lake Placid and the home of Whiteface Mt. There are several inexpensive motels there. Also, please be informed that the Ironman USA marathon is July 26, and the entire area will be mobbed with 2000 athletes and their "entourages." It will be very difficult to find accommodations in the LP area for that weekend. The websie for Wilmington tourism is whitefaceregion.com.
