Route from New York

We are coming over from England with our two children aged 10 abd 13. After spending some time in New York City we wnated to drive to Lake Placid for a few days.

Which would be the most senic way to get there and are there any places on the way that would be worth stopping at for a few hours or overnight?

Thanks

Hi all, Lake placid is 289 miles from NYC, about 6 hours by car on the interstate. It is a typical drive for this part of the country through the catskill and adirondack mountain regions.

You can get an idea of what's up there by going to lake placid website and directions on mapquest.

Compared to nyc, lake placid is a small town feel to it and is mostly known for winter sports and hiking and camping. I know the area through skiing there.

Hope this helps.

Ely.

The normal route would be to drive north up I-87, which is a fairly scenic drive for an interstate. Some interesting stops on the way would be New Paltz for shopping, the Rhinebeck aerodrome for WW1 airshows, or Lake George or Schroon Lake for a beach/lunch/dinner stop. You'll get off I-87 at exit 30, and the drive from there is very scenic through the mountains. FYI, there are no gas stops after Schroon Lake until Keene, so make sure you fill up!
