Spending a week in Hudson River Valley, driving up from NYC.

We need to know if we should find one place and stick with it or stay at several different places. We want to stay in New Paltz @Mohonk, and at Inn @Cooperstown, for instance, but not certain if other towns are too close to move to. In other words, I have read up on several gorgeous sounding places but worry they are all to close together! (Glenmere, Buttermilk Falls Inn, Inn @Stony Creek, Mt. Beacon B&B, Blue Hill @Stone Barns, CIA).

Also we are looking at Saratoga Springs....need to focus on best way to navigate places to stay. Any help is appreciated - thanks so much!

What do you like to do? Hiking? Shopping? Food? Music? Also, when are you looking to come?

Yes, are you saying your first stop is Mohonk and you'll end in Cooperstown? And would like to know what route to take along the way/where one might stop overnight? And how long will you have for this lovely journey?

We spent 6 days driving from Tarrytown to Kinderhook and back. We moved hotels most days--that just suited us better.

We are planning on coming the last week of September and we like to bike, shop, and eat. We have 10 days total, 3 of which will be spent in the city, and the rest traveling up the Hudson. I guess my main question would be how many places should we expect to stay - is it reasonable to expect a 3 hour drive between good places to stay? Is it too far to go up to the Adirondacks? Is there enough to see in the way of historical sites to spend 3 days in lower Hudson Valley?

Check out Cold Spring then. You can rent kayaks at Husdon Valley Outfitters.
