One Night Stay

My wife and I have a wedding late afternoon on Sunday. We want to break up the trip from Philadelphia to Rochester, where the wedding is being held. Saturday afternoon we are planning to stop in Elmira to visit Mark Twain. We thought about staying the night in Corning, NY and take in couple of sights first thing Sunday morning. Does anybody have any recommendations for a quick visit?

Corning Museum of Glass or National Soaring Museum in Big Flats (I think you can get glider rides there, too). The drive from Elmira to Rochester is 2h15m, if that helps. If, and only if, you start from Elmira (not Corning), NY 14 to the NY Thruway is faster (and nicer). Oh, unless you're heading to the west side of Rochester, then I-390.

Be prepared for that area being much more expensive for hotels than you would expect. The drill crews are booking everything, and it can show. I've seen the Econolodge down there get $100/night (yes, $100 for an Econolodge!)

Corning is a great choice. We've stayed there many times usually at the Radisson because of location.

The Corning Museum of Glass is a world class attraction but might require more than a "quick visit" to fully enjoy. Definitely a must see if you've got the time, they open at 9 am... http://www.cmog.org/

The Rockwell Museum of Western Art is an good option and they currently have an Andy Warhol: Cowboys and Indians Exhibition. I might even go down to see that. They open at 9 am too... http://www.rockwellmuseum.org/

Or, just walk around Market St. and surrounding area for shops, restaurants, historic stuff, etc... http://www.gafferdistrict.com/
