Boston to NY Road Trip

Hi, we are looking at a road trip in early November, we would like to visit Boston and New York to see friends and family but between Boston and New York we would like to drive to Cooperstown and Niagara Falls, however we would like to try to stop somewhere about 4 hours from New York. Ideally our journey would be Boston to Cooperstown to Niagara to somewhere and then on to New York.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but the New York one only seems to relate to New York City, any assistance would be welcome.

The New York forum is for all of New York state. There is a sub-forum specifically for NYC. It may look like the New York forum is for NYC but that is because most people are asking about NYC.

Not sure what you are asking about. Is it for a place to stop after Niagara Falls and before NYC? If so, one place is Corning, NY where you could stay and tour the Corning Glass museum. I found the tour interesting.

Another place might be Scranton, PA where you could visit Steamtown National Historic Site. I have never been here but hear it is worth a stop.

Corning, NY is 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Niagra or 150 miles which leaves about 250 miles to NYC or about 4 1/2 hours.

Scranton, PA is about 5 hours of 280 miles from Niagara Falls which leaves about 125 miles or 2 1/2 hours to NYC.

As for the overall trip. I assume multiple days since

Boston to Cooperstown NY is around 250 mile or about 4 1/2 hours

Cooperstown to Niagara Falls is around 250 miles or about 4 1/2 hours

Niagara Falls to NYC is around 400 miles or about 7 hours.

The times are pretty much straight drive time with brief stops for things like getting fuel.

Echoing slim, neither of the places you mentioned (Niagara Falls or Cooperstown) are between Boston and NY.. With Cooperstown it's sort of like driving between London and Liverpool with a stop in....Sunderland? (trying to put it in local-to-you terms) Niagara Falls is the above but adding at least Edinburgh, if not Aberdeen.

It really comes down to how much time do you have for this trip?

The Boston to Cooperstown to New York is very easy, and accessible.

Adding Niagara Falls into the picture can be done but how much time do you have. As others have stated above with mileage, hours and times they are right on. You shouldn't have any weather problems in November but anytime you travel in Upstate NY and south of Lake Ontario to Niagara Falls you are never sure what you will run into.

Corning is a nice destination along with other communities in the Finger Lake region i.e. Geneva, Ithaca, Cannadaigua, Corning (These areas are rich in Wineries, Water Falls, State Parks, Lakes, etc. November may be tough to enjoy them to their fullest though.

Since you are driving from Boston to Cooperstown another stop along the way with Museum potential would be the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA.

Good luck with your plans.

Great thanks for botht the advice and assistance with the forums. I understand that Cooperstown and Niagria are off the direct route but the idea was to try and see some other places instead of 2 cities.
