1. How large is the Delta

2.Is there any way to see most of it besides viewing by air.

3. How much time would be required for this

4.We are a group of 4 , all around 60 yrs of age.

The Okavango Delta covers an area of about 16,000 sq. km, To experience the Delta try to visit water based areas as well as land based areas

To see the Delta at it's best, one should travel Mid-June to end of September, when the water levels will be at their highest.

Visiting the best "water based" areas really requires taking a light aircraft, which is easily done from Maun. Water based Camps and Lodges include:

Abu Camp

Baines Camp

Camp Okavango

Delta Camp

Eagle Island Camp

Gunns Camp

Jao Camp

Kanana

Little Kwara Camp

Little Vumbura Camp

Moremi Crossing

Oddballs Camp

Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge

Seba Camp

Shinde Camp

Stanleys Camp

Xaranna Okavango Camp

Xudum Delta Lodge

Xugana Island Lodge

All these water based Lodges offer mokoro excursions, walking safaris, and some offer game drives.

Land based Lodges include:

Camp Moremi

Chiefs Safari Camp

Khwai River Lodge

Little Mombo Camp

Moremi Crossing

Nxabega Camp

Vumbura Plains

Xakanaxa Camp

These land based Camps mainly offer Game Drives, but some also offer water activities such as motor boat.

My advise would be to spend 2/3 nights in a water based camp, and 2/3 nights in a land based camp.

When flying out to your water based camp, ensure that you charter a plane for yourselves (easily done as most planes from Maun are 5 seater) and ask your charter company to include a scenic flight over the Delta en route

Hi, We just returned from a fantastic experience with Travel Adventures in Maun. We hired two fully equipped vehicles from them and did a self drive camping safari through Moremi, Savuti and Chobe. We also visited Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. We saw thousands of animals and for me this is the way to do it. Travel Adventures did the camp site and other accommodation bookings for us. Their operation is professional and the vehicles and equipment were in excellent condition. They were very helpful during the entire process. I will recommend them any time. We are already planning our next trip and will use them again.

We are taking advantage of Wilderness Safari's "Green Season" pricing for a trip this November. Our itinerary is 21 camp nights in 5 different camps -- Tubu Tree, Xigera, Vumburu Plains, Chitabe Ledibe and Savuti. By traveling in the green season the lower pricing allows us to see much more on our budget.

We visited the Delta as part of an overland safari last year.

There is so much to see & the Delta is massive but we had the experience of a lifetime staying at Moremi Crossing. We flew from Maun to Gunns then transferred by boat to Moremi.

In 48hrs we did a trip in a Mokoro, two walks & 2 fabulous boat trips.

We hope to go back one day but for such a short time we saw heaps of the Delta both from the air & the water & more animals & birdlife, closer than we could ever have imagined.

If you have ever dreamed of Africa you need to experience the Delta.
