Dining in Ruidoso

My husband and I will be visiting Ruidoso in a few weeks and would like some frank opinions regarding places to dine. How are the BBQ restaurants? We are from Oregon but like the real Texas type BBQ! Also hows the food at the casino? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I was in Ruidoso two weeks ago and enjoyed a full evening of entertainment at Mountain Annies Dinner Theatre. They serve on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Their dinners and entertainment are excellent. (http://www.mountainannies.com)

I've seen the Flying J Ranch show several times. It, also, is a good place to spend an entire evening. It's a ranch style setting a short drive out of town with BBQ and all the trimmings, and the personel is friendly. (http://www.flyingjranch.com)

There are two casinos near Ruidoso: Inn of the Mountain Gods (on the Mescalero Reservation)http://www.innofthemountaingods.com/casino.asp

and Billy the Kid at the race track. www.ruidomain.com/ruidoso/activities/btk.htm

I have not had dinner at either of the casino.

Ruidoso is high county (about 7000 feet in the village but goes higher) so take it easy and pack a light rap. More information can be found at http://www.ruidoso.net/faq/

Thanks for the info! We can't wait to check out Ruidoso as a retirement spot for us. Besides eating out, we will be looking at different areas to live. Thanks for the heads up for bringing a jacket. We have lived in the Rockies before and are well aware of how it can cool off at night! Any areas around or out of town that would be your favorite places to live would be appreciated. My husband likes under the trees and I prefer more sun. Hate the"dank" smelliness of a cabin which has not seen the light. Thanks again and keep the comments rollin!

Another grrreat restaurant in Ruidoso is "The Texas Club." Best steaks in "the West"~~~ask for a table in the bar area as usually a small band plays. For lunch, "The Hummingbird" (downtown) is a wonderful spot~~~amidst shopping. Also for lunch go to the highly acclaimed restaurant (downstairs) at "The Inn of The Mountain Gods." In the evenings it's quite expensive, but very reasonable for luncheon.

If time permits, drive over to Cloudcroft (50 min.'s) and have lunch at Rebecca's~~ "The Lodge" hotel~~~well worth a trip over.

I'll be visiting Ruidoso over the 4th of July~~a family ritual!

Enjoy your stay

Thanks, Martita!

Can't wait to try out the places you have commented on. We'll have to compare notes when we return. Have a great trip! We'll be leaving for Ruidoso after the 4th. Take care.
