Private villa danger

Hi,

I've read that staying in private "non-estate" villas is dangerous. People jump over the walls and rob you at knifepoint etc etc....how common is this?

Thanks

It's not a myth but it is uncommon.Like any country, any where in the world there are house robberies, but you have no reason to fear it any more than any day at your own home.

Its not a myth. There have been a spate of robberies in the last year or so but I think the main culprits have been caught. Thats from pple who live there.

Definitely not a myth. There has been a surge in violence. Police is working hard on stopping these problems.

If you're nervous about the possibility of this sort of thing happening to you, it might be wise to consider staying in a hotel.

I would investigate the amount of security at your villa - see if there are 24 hour security guards - who stay awake all night .......

I personally feel that the issue of 'security guards' been paid to sleep is a major safety issue. It would concern me staying in a villa. That doesn't mean it's not right for everyone, but that's my gut feeling.

We cancelled our booking at a private villa for this exact reason - when you are travelling with teenage girls you don't need that sort of worry. It was all over the news there for a while when i was sorting the itinerary.
