Family accommodations in Aldo

I am trying to find out what families do for accommodations at Aldo. The kids are 12 and 14 and I am concerned about the safety of putting them alone in a separate “room”. I see the family chalets and they are perfect except for location. I really want a Rondavel or tent to be on the perimeter for optimal viewing.

Did you mean Addo?

The safari tents are recommended for very good value for money

yes Addo, but with the tents we have to split up into 2. do families do this? or are there other options.

There is plenty of family accommodation in Addo. The best is to go to the "Tariffs" page : sanparks.org/parks/…tariffs.php Now you can click on different accommodation types and see what they consist of.

First of all with kids your age I would see no problem at all with two Safari tents or Rondavels. Loads of South African families do this.

But if you want to stay together then the main chalet accommodation is in large chalets which have either two single beds or one double bed plus a double sleeper couch. This is specified to be for children but relatives who have two girls, 13 and 15 stayed in one of these last year and the girls were perfectly happy. They only were charged child rates as well! This works out at R954 per night for the four of you. There are 20 of these chalets and they all have an individual terrace which looks out over the park and you will often see Elephants and Kudu while you are having breakfast.

The standard CH2/4 chalets have a single open living - sleeping area. There is only one "Family Chalet" which has a second separate bedroom (FCH4 - R985). If this chalet is available (it is popular!) it is excellent value. The view from here is also good as the chalets are on a hillside and the terrace of this one looks clear over the roofs of the chalets below,

Then there are two larger family guesthouses. These are much larger and can sleep up to six. They have two separate bedrooms and two bathrooms. They also have a large comfortable living room with leather sofas and a separate dinning room. They both have big terraces which overlook the waterhole. They do hovwever cost R2,315 per night for 4.

Finally as budget accommodation look at the Forest Cabins. These are log cabins with four full size single beds. They have a small bathroom and a dining terrace but don't have an individual kitchen. Like the Rodavels each group of cabins has a separate communal kitchen just a few metres away. They are excellent value at R567 for 4. These cabins are in a wooded area which doesn't have a view over the park - but then you will be in the park for around 10 hours a day anyway. We are in the park from opening at 6am and then only come back for breakfast for a couple of hours and then come back at sunset when the gates close.

Here is the map of the camp layout. Nothing is more than 5 mins walk from the central area - restaurant, shop, game drive offive.

The tents are relatively close to one another, you could easily use two safari tents, as VDC said. It is quite common for families to do that. Your kids will be safe. just insist on two tents next to each other.

What's great about the safari tents is that they are private/ on the perimeter of the camp with great views. These tents are huge and spacious permanent structures, 2m tall, with lockable doors

I recommend this as the best option, but do consider all options before you choose.
