Cruising out of Manhattan 6/17 family of 5

Good Day everyone,

We are cruising out of Manhattan on 6/17 as a family of 5. We are arriving by train at Penn Station on 6/14 looking for hotel stay for 3 nights. Our preference would not to pay 300+ a night in Manhattan. I have done some research on hotels in New Jersey and it appears we could easily save 100+ a night by commuting into the city. Also it appears a train leaves directly from Penn into New Jersey?

My question is how feasible is this plan as a whole?

How long of a train ride back into New Jersey after arriving at Penn?

What hotels are good options near the station in New Jersey.

Any other suggestions or words of caution would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You all in advance.

Regards,

Are you sure you are cruising from Manhattan and not Brooklyn or Bayonne?

That answer is very important to how others answer your questions and how you plan your visit.

Thank you for your quick reply. I am very sure the cruise leaves from Manhattan.

You should re-post in the NYC forum -- they get this question all the time and will give you good advice, namely that you should look in Jersey City at a hotel near a PATH station (PATH is a subway that runs between NY and NJ)

Secaucus is not optimal because there is no train service, only bus service, and it will cost you $9/adult round trip to get into Manhattan by bus.

But another important question is, how are you getting here - driving or flying, and if the latter, what airport? The answers to those questions will make a huge difference to your answer. But just put that info in your NYC post

I didn't see in your original post that you stated you were arriving via Amtrak

Just wanted to follow up on my posting. We ended up staying at the Affinia Manhattan and couldn't be happier with the location and hotel as a whole. If we decide to take a cruise out of NYC again that would be the hotel we would go with. Across the street from Penn Station.
