I have never seen a hotel in Seaside Heights or Seaside Park, only motels.

Is there any reason you want to stay in Seaside? There are nicer shore communities that do have hotels.

The vast majority of lodging options along the shore will be motels. It's just the way it's always been done. Much of the reasoning is due to the shore being busy for only 4 months or so out of the year. In the other 8 months, the motels are closed or operate in a limited capacity mode. Even some of the few hotel options close during the very slowest months in the winter.

You'll have to read up on the various motels available, but many will be decent. I've been in many a not-so-decent chain hotel too, so it's not the end of the world to stay in a motel!

There a number of hotels in Monmouth County that certainly are open year round....if the OP is interested in another Shore town, then he can take a look in Spring Lake, Ocean Grove, Asbury Park, Long Branch and Red Bank.

In case the nice people from Scotland have a specific reason they want to see Seaside Heights, the nicest HOTEL within 30 minutes of that boardwalk is Hilton Garden Inn Lakewood NJ

It is on Route 70 West in Lakewood NJ...at the border of Brick NJ. It would be about a 30 minute drive to reach your destination. Toms River has hotels not motels but they are not at the standard of a Hilton. Toms River is closer to Seaside Heights. You can decide what is best for you.

In Toms River there is a Howard Johnson hotel ...about 10 minutes from Seaside Hts. and a Days Hotel about 17 minutes from Seaside Heights. Days is a chain hotel that is newer and nicer looking than Howard Johnson....even though Howard Johnson is fine. Yet, Hilton is still the best.

Tripadvisor has reviews of all of these hotels.

Just enter into Tripadvisor's search engine the word "Hotels" on the left search box and the name of the town "Toms River" or "Lakewood" on the right search box.

....or google the specific hotel...."Tripadvisor reviews of Howard Johson Hotel in Toms River NJ"

AHHH...tripadvisor made it easy on you. Just click on Toms River wherever it appears in a blue color.

Not to stick my self into your plans, BUT, there are much nicer places at the Jersey Shore to meet your family. Why did they pick Seaside? If you can get a nice hotel within easy walking access to the beach in my opinion that would be much better than driving back and forth from Lakewood or Toms River.

I did not see any hotels close. The motels are basic places and they are not the Ritz Carlton by any means but they will do for a nice stay. Try the seaside palace inn for a decent rate and basic rooms. The higher levels are quiter even though we stayed in the 1 st floor we slept like babies
