OC restricted beaches

Most homeowners and renters are just learning of a recent approval of Ocean City's Beach Management Plan. attached is a link to the report.

services.ocnj.us/LinkClick.aspx…

This several hundred page document describes how OC now is divided into recreational and protected-restricted areas. 18th to 29th street beaches are now labeled as "protected" and subject to use restrictions. Apparently, "piping plovers" have won out over residents and tourists in the heart of Ocean City's beaches. Under the terms of this document beach usage for kite flying, catamaran sailing, pedestrian traffic, etc is prohibited.

Sailing at 23rd street which has been in use as a recreational sailing, kayak, multi-use beach has now been outlawed. According to the report kites within 200 meters are also prohibited but to date only sail boats have experienced enforcement of the ban.

This has been done without taxpayer approval and comes as a surprise to both homeowners and renters. Inquiries to OC officials have not provided any clarity or relief.
