Best Area to go to the beach with small children

I am going to Ocean City for the first time during the 4th of July week. I noticed that the boardwalk and beach is many miles long. Can anyone advise if their are certain areas that are better for kids or geared toward children (both my kids are nine years old). Also can anyone recommend any decent family restaurants in the area.)

If you're staying in OC, just go to the closest beach that has a life guard stand (a must with adventurous kids not familiar with the ocean and the undertow!) If you're going for the day, park around 13th Street because I believe there's still a place around there near the boardwalk where you can change and take a shower after beaching it. As for where to eat? Enjoy the boardwalk with the kids and spoil them with all the stuff they can't have the rest of the year - pizza, hotdogs, hamburgers, french fries. Enjoy your kids and your time in OCNJ. And, take lots of pictures!

Thanks for your reply but this question should have been for Ocean City Maryland and not New Jersey.

*LOL* too funny!

either way, I really appreciated the question and the reply, as OCNJ is someplace we're thinking about going this August with our toddler!
