Historic Buildings or Historic Sites

My friend and I will be staying in Portsmouth for a few days this summer on our way home to Toronto. We are very interested in historical homes we can visit and historical sites in and around the Portsmouth area. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think you would enjoy a visit to Strawbery Banke.

The Warner House is quite unique, and is located right in downtown:

You'll have to make it a point to visit the Stone Church (great music) in Newmarket. It's located at 5 Granite Street in the heart of Newmarket, not to far from Portsmouth at all, it was built in 1832.
