Lincoln, NH

We have never been out East and are looking forward to our October trip. Any information on what we should not miss on this trip would be appreciated. We will have a vehicle, so if we need to drive somewhere, it will not be a problem. We are from Illinois and are looking forward to the fall colors.

My family made yearly trips to the White Mountains 40+ years ago and we are now returning with our family. For a truly authentic experience, follow the lead of the gentry who summered in the mountains in the 1800s. Take a trip up Mt. Washington, best done with guided coarch drive. See the quaint Clark's Bears. Take your hiking shoes and explore trails, plus well-known destinations like The Flume (gorgeous, with a cute story about its disvovery), the Basin, and the Bretton Woods. See the Robert Frost homestead and stop by Polly's pancake house while at Sugar Hill. Drive the Kancamangus Highway and wade in the clear frigid stoney . Stay in the wilder areas and emjoy the refuge fron modern light pollution. Just be careful as it's sure dark when night falls. Night-time driving is best done slowly. We would recommend the Mt. Coolidge Inn in Lincoln if you want to experience local hospitality, comfort and cleanliness at a great price. Enjoy!
