Hampton beach best spot to be for parking rest rooms food

A group of us are thinking of doing a beach day at Hampton Beach - we are from Greater Boston. A few questions:

1. What time should we arrive on an August weekend to get decent parking?

2. Where is the best place to park to be in proximity to a good beach, rest room facilities (very important) and food.

3. After we have had enough beach we may clean up and wander about and find some dinner, shop etc. We might have a teenager girl with us. Where is the best place to situate ourselves so we can leave the car in one spot all day and do this.

4. How much is parking?

5. What are the highlights in the area besides the actual beach?

6. Recommend a good place for dinner - we like seafood but a place with other options on the menu in addition to seafood

7. I know the beach rules say no alcohol but if we are discreet about having a container of something like wine coolers and low key will we be ok?

Thanks!

Definitely no wine coolers or other alcohol drinks - you'll most likely get nabbed (because others will notice you!)

Parking along the Ocean Blvd next to the beach is metered by the hour - you're close but have to keep going back and feeding the meters every 2 hours.

You can park in one of the pay lots that are along Ashworth Ave (the southbound side of route 1A) and be a block away from the beach. This map should help: hamptonbeach.org/about-us/…

There are restrooms in three places along the beach - see the map above.

If you have never been to Hampton beach before, know that Ocean Blvd is filled with fried food places, souvenir stores, penny arcades, small motels/condos and a bunch of dive bars along the side streets. A 'good place' for dinner - what are your standards? You might want to consider stopping somewhere after leaving the beach area, such as the Galley Hatch on route 1, or some place down in Newburyport.

As an alternative to the main Hampton beach, consider the HB State Park, just to the south of the main area - but too far to walk to. Large parking lot (that does get filled up by noon on a weekend), restrooms and changing facilities, but only a little store, so bring your own food and beverages.

Definitely no alcohol, not even discretely. It is illegal and you could potentially be arrested (not worth it). Two summers ago i saw a group of 4 maybe college age kids escorted off the beach; they had a cooler from which they were "refilling" their plastic cups. Plenty of places on Ocean Blvd where you can take a break from the beach to grab a beer.

For a better dinner with both seafood and non seafood options. Try the Sea Ketch on Oceab Blvd near the Casino.

For parking, we park in one of the paid lots on Ashworth Ave near the back of the Casino. Park all day for one flat fee. There are public bathrooms and showers in at least three areas of the beach, the "center" being the ones by the Casino with probably the most choice of places to buy snacks, drinks and lunch.

Have fun!

Thank you both fflbrgst and bookat for your input. I am a bit surprised about the alcohol thing. I've been to Revere Beach (in the evening), Wollaston in Quincy and Crane's in Ipswich during the day and have always been able to have beer or wine coolers quietly and discreetly without a problem. Maybe because Hampton Beach is known as a party zone they are less tolerant. We're all adult professionals, not college kids, and I am talking about enjoying 2-3 wine coolers each over the course of an 8 hour beach day. But thanks for all your input. I appreciate it.

Yes, it is the "party zone" atmosphere that is the cause. You will notice a definite police presence there, especially on weekends. The cops even patrol there on horseback (not kidding)!

You might get away with VERY discreet pouring into plastic cups at the State Park beach, but not the main beach.

Sometimes it's helpful to know the history. I, for one, am glad for the strong police presence and the enforcement of the laws.~~~allfins

Lots of Police presence, especially on weekends. On another note, The Boardwalk Cafe is a good place for dinner with both seafood choices and non sea food items. They have the best Chicken Parm and Steak tip Caesar Salads.
