Hampton beach Q and A From a local

Hi,

I live at Hampton Beach year-round and wanted to answer some of the most pressing questions (or issues!) that tourists have. Please feel free to respond to this thread with any additional questions you might have! Just a note some of these are just opinions-but let's start with facts:

How Much is it to Park?

The meters between May 1st-Oct 1st are $2.00 per hour. Depending on the day, the weather and if it's a holiday parking lots can range between $3 dollars to as much as $50 (July 4th).

Can I Bring my Dog on the Beach?

No-Dogs are not permitted on State Park Property.

When is the arcade/restuarants and shops open?

For the restaurants Wallys, Goat, Breakers at Ashworth and Ocean Wok are open year-round.

Most seasonal restaurants open weekends starting in April until November. The shops and arcades are open daily June 15th-Sept 20th and all depend on the weather between April-June and Sept-November.

Is the Casino Ballroom a casino?

No! It's a great concert place actually. However there is the Ocean Gaming which has low limit table games (Blackjack, Let it Ride) and pull tab slots which is open year-round. Aces and 8's a seasonal casino with less fun.

Can I bring Alcohol on the beach? Can I walk around with alcohol?

My favorite question! No. Just remember there are only 2 places in the USA you can openly drink alcohol-The Las Vegas Strip and Bourbon Street (for Mardi Gras only).

Does Hampton have Uber and Lyft?

Yes

Where Should I shop for groceries?

Market Basket Seabrook

Is marijuana legal?

No-and I mean NO-You will be arrested for a misdemeanor in the state of NH.

What are the best specials?

Wally's (although the bar is a little icky) has 2 Lobsters for $14, The GOAT has two for 1 burgers Mondays and Tuesdays, Wallys has 10 cent wings Weds. Happy Hours are usually 3-6 for most places with $2 beers.

What are the best motels?

The Ashworth ($$$$) Blue Jay ($$) and Seawalk ($$) are the nicest I hear about.

Where are the current rules and regulations for Hampton Beach? Not found on http://www.hamptonbeach.org.

Some are found at hamptonlifeguards.org/beach_regulations.html but the website isn't official.

Curious about any new local ordinances affecting Hampton Beach. Specifically, are tents still allowed for CY 2017?

If you're referring to the "Old Salt', it burned quite a while back & then moved to the middle of the town of Hampton. Hope to be visiting your lovely town again next June-beautiful city and wonderful people.

Some great info, thanks for sharing. Needed to know where to get groceries. I do have a question or 2. Can we as civilians shot fireworks off on the beach.( nothing crazy just a few for the kids)? And where is the best place to buy cartons of smokes to bring home for my Dad? Thanks again my brother and I look forward to our week every year, jealous of those of you who are local to live this everyday. Thanks for putting up with the tourism

My choices are the Hampton House Hotel (2 blocks north of boardwalk) which has a SIDE ocean view. Or Grayhurst which has NO ocean view but is in the middle of everything and a one block walk to beach. Hampton house is $460 and Grayhurst is $303. Both have free parking. I wanted that ocean view but I don't know if I will enjoy being further away from everything. PLEASE HELP!

My experience is that Hampton hotels can be "iffy" in terms of cleanliness and maintenance of facilities. From personal experience, I can say that the Greyhurst, while older, is clean and well-cared for by its owner. I happily gave up an ocean view for that. I have never stayed at the other one, but I think I recall that it gets good reviews here on TA.

We are planning to book a lobster tour and want to keep some of the lobsters we catch. Are there any restaurants or fish markets that will cook your lobster for you? Ideally a restaurant where we could enjoy the lobster(s) with some side dishes.

I have been going there since the 80s and don’t know of anywhere like that. There is a campground on the southern edge of the beach that allows day use now and it may have some public grills. Check with your hotel; some have outdoor grills for guest use. Or, look into renting a hotel room with a kitchenette.
