I believe the Cal Neva gives the best exchange rate in gaming areas. I think you get 2 c or so better than the actuall exchange rate.

Look on the exchange rate sign at the cashier to see if they say the rate then they say in gaming area. If they do they will change the money for you at tbe table and give you the better rate.

Not every casino does that and some have stopped doing that in the last few years.

Yes, CalNev always gave/gives a good exchange rate; however, I have actually stopped taking Canadian money with me and get my US money before I leave home.

With more and more machines becoming "ticket in/ticket out" (ie no cash), the number of change people on the casino floors is dwindling rapidly. Now (at least in the casinos I play at), you pretty much have to go to a change booth as opposed to having someone come up to you. I just found it really inconvenient to have to stop what I was doing to find a change person, or go to the change booth all for a few cents difference in what it would have cost to get US at home.

And on one of my last bus trips, someone said they'd changed their Canadian at one of the casinos (I forget which one) and they'd been monitored by security to make sure they actually played at the casino and didn't just get the good exchange rate and leave.

I was downtown last night and looked at the casino billboards. A few used to advertise their Canadian Exchange rate. I didn't see one bilboard with it posted.

Anamerty - I am just back from Reno. I took mostly US money, but did take some Canadian. At Silver Legacy, they were giving 85 cents on the dollar and at Eldorado it was only 84 cents! And those were on the floor at the change booths, not at the main cashier cage! Since the Canadian dollar is currently around 90 cents US, that's just a ridiculously low rate of exchange. I'd definitely suggest getting your US at home before you leave.

By the way, the best luck I had was at Circus Circus!
