Rental or no?

Staying at the Peppermill for a women’s conference in June, we will be busy most of the time just need to walk to dining for lunches and dinners. Is most everything walkable? Considering renting a car for the first couple days before things get started to maybe go see Trukee, any recommendations on must see sights nearby?

Near the Peppermill? Its located on a busy street (Virginia) in a commercial section so there's not a whole lot nearby. You'll probably want to use your car or Uber to eat in Midtown or check out downtown.

If you have not yet been to Tahoe then its well worth seeing. You could take a drive over Mt. Rose highway and go see Sand Harbor. If you don't have time for a beach day then just walk the short trail near the shore for fabulous photo ops. After that head to Tahoe City, stopping at either Gar Woods or Lone Eagle Grille for lunch, both are lakefront. From Tahoe City you can head to downtown Truckee along HWY 89. Downtown Truckee is charming and great for browsing. If you can do this on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds, especially in late June. You could do a South Lake version of this too, stopping at the Zephyr Cove pier for photos and then taking a cruise on the MS Dixie, The Bleu Wave, or my favorite, the Safari Rose. After that take the drive over to view Emerald Bay before heading back. Lots of options.

Lots of folks visiting also like Virginia City and that can be done in just a few hours.

In Reno be sure to check out the Riverwalk District, the Truckee should be flowing nicely so you can watch kayakers in the white water park and there's a ton of bars and eateries around. Outdoor drinks and lawn games at the Eddy are always fun and the Aces may be in town for a ballgame (the DB's AAA team). There's also a Patagonia outlet, if you, per chance, want to stock up on outdoor gear. There is also an art museum and a car museum if you're into museums (I'm not). Depending on your dates the rodeo may be in town, which is a blast. Hope this helps!

Extremely helpful! Thank you for the quick response. I'm thinking we definitely need to rent a car to get out and about when we have down time. Husband will be tagging along and he will probably want the car so he's not hotel bound.
