Hotel with kids

We are going to be driving though on a 12 day driving trip. Will be headed from Phoenix to Portland, OR. We plan to spend one night in Las Vegas on Tuesday, June 7th. Kids are 5 and 8 and have never been to Vegas before. We plan to walk a bit along the strip and look at the unusual hotels and probably have dinner. We will likely arrive around 4pm. Maybe swim a couple hours the next morning before hitting the road again.

Where would you recommend we stay? Budget is important. I was leaning toward Mandalay Bay for $99 per night, but they charge an extra $80 for the 2 kids which basically doubles the price. Any thoughts on somewhere sort of kid friendly in the $150 or less price range for a Tuesday in June?

Could you give the date in June? Prices in Vegas vary massively. Many of us are happy to punch in your dates and make recommendations based on your criteria.

Another option is to check into MB on your own, for two people. Don't tell them about the kids. However there are possible issues here morally. This is your call, of course. Many people do it.

If you plan to walk about the strip. Go mid strip. Paris, PH, Ballys even Hurrahs.

Haha, I read the last sentence and so forgot the detail given earlier in the post. Plus I've had a few glasses of vino...

If you are staying only one night, I would eliminate swimming from your plans. Most pools at casino hotels close surprisingly early.

By the way, $99 for MB is a great price.

Not many other options in that price range on that date. Flamingo, Bally's, Tropicana, Luxor. I'm taking into account resort fees here too, pushing the $150 budget slightly on Bally's and Luxor.

I was surprised to see MB isn't one of them, opening at 8am and closing at 7pm.

Monte Carlo. They have a pool that will be perfect for your kids. They have a gentle lazy river, and a small wave pool that older kids think is lame, but your kids will think is the right size. They have a food court for casual dining, grab an ice cream, etc.

The MC location is good, with the new park next door, the M&M (a must see for young kids with 4 floors and a wall of different colored M&Ms) and Coke stores across the street. You are also close to Bellagio (free tram) and the Conservatory and chocolate fountain.

MGM also has a lazy river, but a lot of drinking takes place there and it can be much rowdier than the river at MC. Mandalay Bay has the river, beach and wavepool. But your kids are probably too small to be allowed in the waves.
